View Full Version : Urijah's possible opponent in January
If this has been posted already I am sorry. I searched and didn't see anything.
http://www.mmanews.com/other/Report:-Urijah-Faber-Could-Fight-Jose-Aldo-In-January.html
According to a report from Fiveouncesofpain.com, former WEC Featherweight Champion Urijah Faber is getting ready to get back into the cage as soon as possible and the return could come as early as January as he tells Fiveounces:
“I’ve heard January 25th as a tentative date. It is to be announced as to where it will be, but I think it could be San Diego.”
When asked about a potential opponent, Faber was quick to answer with another WEC fighter.
“Possibly Jose Aldo,” said Faber.

ummmm...I don't mean to outright disrespect this kid, but how do you go from the #7 (of 10) fight to fight the top guy in the WEC?
Is this not "disrespectful" to Urijah?
The kid looks good as far as his stas...that's not saying Urijah's not gonna whoop his a$$!!!!

Urijah talked about Aldo in the radio interview I posted on a different thread. Urijah said that Aldo is the best fighter in the weight divison next to him - said Aldo is better than Mike Brown and Leonard Garcia.

Urijah's belt will be back home where it belongs in March for sure. I hope whoever is standing in the way has good medical insurance. :p
Aldo is a really good fighter and would put forth quite a threat to Brown, Aldo, Garcia, Urijah and the rest of the 145er's but again, I feel Urijah's quick thinking and skills are too much for Jose

GSP cured Josh Koscheck of his murder-mouth. Garcia has the same ailment.

I agree - he talks a lot of crap but to be honest I think he is a very good fighter and Urijah will have to be at the top of his game to beat Leonard.
Leonard is near impossible to knockout (remember the Huerta fight), he has knockout power (Pulver) and he actually has a good ground-game too. Not to mention, he trains at one of the best camps in MMA - Greg Jackson's - they are known for coming up with the best gameplans.
Aside from that, I assume you all know about this already but if not - here is a link to the story. Garcia was mixed up in a huge cocaine bust earlier this year

Agreed. Despite his yap, Garcia is one very tough dude. Heavy-handed, strong submissions, excellent chin. If a Garcia vs. Brown match shakes down I would give Leonard a strong edge, setting up a title fight with Urijah (hopefully). That would be quite a war.

I hate to toot my own horn (toot-toot), but I've been suggesting a Garcia vs. Faber matchup since Urijah's loss to Mike Brown. Garcia said he wants a title shot...fighting Urijah before that would be a very good compromise for him and the WEC.
Mike Brown's probably out for at least 6 more months...
so the top guys are (in no particular order, except for the first one):
Urijah
Leonard Garcia
Jose Aldo
Waggney Fabiano (the new guy)
Jens Pulver
Jeff Curran
any of these guys are a great fight to watch right now...

Urijah's management already explained how the fights will break down - it doesn't look like Urijah is going to fight Garcia in the immediate future unless something changes.
We know Urijah is fighting Aldo in Jan.
The only question is whether Urijah will get an immediate rematch with Brown (if he beats Aldo of course) or if Brown will fight Garcia and then Urijah will get the winner of that fight for the title.
