Have u ever seen anyone use a hip throw in mma? its one of my fav moves to use in wrestling. along with riding legs.. and cradling people in the air! haha

You could throw em down in headlock. Then swith to neck crank, or arm bar.. If no one does this im gonna do it!

ive never seen anyone do a throw in mma, mainly because the risk there is in a throw, if it goes bad or you fail to execute it, they have your back, and you have to turn into them risking some bad punches.

its great to watch wrestlers in mma though, they have the best takedowns

You might want to check out Hirimitsu Miura. The guys got either a brown or black belt in Judo and he definitely used some of his moves in his fight with Carlos Condit back in August.

He sure did EJ. I thought several times that Carlos was going to loose that fight. That guy's a badass for sure.

Yeah, that was one killer fight. Condit could barely stand up during his interview.

Aaron -- check out this guy (Miura). Saw another fight of his last night and he definitely did a hip toss on his opponent.

Karo Parisyan is a Judo tachtician and uses the hip throw/judo throw in most of his fights to score take downs !!!

She is right - he used the hip throw twice actually

Carlos had no defense for it - he should have kept going for the throws - even though Hirimitsu was't following them up with anything they were clearly frustrating Carlos and scoring points. Carlos moved away from his gameplan and just started throwing like crazy

maybe its just me, but im too much of a wuss to try a hip or shoulder throw. I tried a drop shoulder once but it didnt end up as good as i thought it would, just took it to the mat.
maybe time to learn some judo

Give it a try Tap. I'll bet you like it. I learned how to throw someone over my shoulder. I was surprised that with the correct technique how easy it was. The guy was about 6'1" and 180 lbs.

Thanks ama. I don't know if badass is the right word. I might be too old for that description. :)

Thank you, thank you. I feel special here having two titles -- momma and bodyguard. Seems the two go hand in hand. :D

Hip tosses are a great way to get the crowd into a match. Another great thing about them is if you choose to land on top of the guy/gal, you land directly in side control every time.

Unfortunately, I don't train MMA or Judo. I learend how do that when I used to take Isshyn Ryu. It's a great move and very effective.

Personally, as a spectator I love to watch when fighters incorporate moves like that into the fight. Does add to the excitment factor.

It does add heaps of excitement to the match. An inside heel-trip is now near as nice as a hip toss and never will be. How long have you been doing TKD EJ and what is the origin of your name? Or is it just a SN?

I've been taking TKD for almost four years. But had a year off due to 2 knee surgeries. I take it with my son (makes sparring fun).:)

Ejderhan means dragon in Turkish. I lived there for 3 years and loved it. My real name is Kim.

Oh boy do I know. Three years there exposes you to a lot. And I didn't live on a military base. I lived in downtown Izmir with the Turkish people.

Well, Tobias, it's very nice to make your e-quaintence too.

Hip tosses are quite simple and I say that never having taken a judo class in my life. It's all technique.

Judo practitioners can hip toss you from pretty much ANY standing position they want. Regardless if you have a single or double under hook, if you feel pressure from their hips, once they get there hands clasped together there is no stopping the ride your about to take. Unless you can pull some matrix moves out your ass. As Tobias said the hip toss is easy to learn and a great tool to have in your arsenal. Again as Tobias said, they move the crowd thats fo sho !!

Judo matches are great to watch. When a judoka gets slammed on his back and the official yells, "IPPON!" You know the fighter on his back is not happy.

Kimberly
11-21-2008, 08:45 AM
So for us non- judo experts, what does that mean?

tobias
11-21-2008, 09:32 AM
I'm not judo expert either. Ippon is an instant win. You earn it by slamming your opponent flat on his back.

Kimberly

But you know more than I do. So, any knowledge you have is much appreciated.

tobias

My judo knowledge comes from asking questions on other forums. MMA stuff comes from being around the sport for a bit now, and muay thai, well I think I answered that in the mini novel I wrote.

Ya.. thats what im saying.. You land in side controll... And its a flashy crowd getter.. and a great move if u can pull it off in mma.. Im really good at them so i betcha when i start up my pro career ull see me doing them lol. But only when the oportunity is at hand. Gotta be smart.

Tobias, i here in russian Sambo, they have a similar rule where a perfect throw ends the match. Im not 100% positive but i remember hearing that somewhere

Sambo is a great art. I don't know very much about it though.

Ivan

ive been looking into it, first heard it from Fedor, but there arent any good schools for it out here. There are like 2 russian martial art schools but both way up in the mountains

tobias

There aren't any sambo schools out here in Sacramento either so don't feel left out. I'm a Muay Thai fanatic so I'm not really worried about it.:D
