Hopefully the show gets picked up soon. TV's so boring. Aside from MMA and football, there isn't much to watch.

That's the truth. I let my son watch pretty much what he wants to until a fight is on. I'm so sick of Sponge Bob and Drake & Josh that I could just puke.

I'm lucky in that aspect, my son loves to watch the fights. Of course, he wants to be a fighter (not sure if I'm lucky about that though).
Ej. You are lucky about that. At least he's staying focused and doing something productive! But I don't know if I could handle my son fighting either. I know what you are saying as far as that goes.
Let's go reality show, can't wait!
I'd like to see a reality show with WEC stars. Not like Ultimate Fighter, that shit is too dramatic. But like a show where each episode is behind the scenes of another WEC star. Maybe they're doing that already, in that case I'm a jackass.
And why wouldn't you want your son to fight? You should be proud!

I'd like to watch a reality show about the training. That's what I"m really interested in. Although I'm not a professional fighter I like to learn new things to throw into my training to make me better.
Vega - I am extremely proud of my son. At 16, he's very mature, focused, and poised. I could not ask for anything more. But, as a mom, I think it would hard to watch him get in the cage and fight. I mean, would you want to watch your kid possibly get knocked out?
No kids so I cannot relate. But I see what you mean.

I know exactly what you mean EJ. I think I would have a heart attack if somebody hit my baby. Mine's only 5 years old, but 5 or 35, he's still mine and I'll always be protective of him.
Same here ama. I would be proud of my son no doubt but I can only imagine how urijah's mom feels after one of his fights, whether he wins or loses, he still gets hit. You know? It would be hard for me to watch my son get hit like that. Like Ama said they are always our babies and we'll always be protective.

I read that Urijah's mom doesn't attend his fights for those reasons. But, I've always told Cody if it's something the really wants to do then he better make sure he's ready for it and I'll back him 100%. I figure when he's 18 he doesn't need my permission anyway. Until then, he can take whatever class he wants/needs to for training. I guess it helps our TKD instructor just partnered up with a friend on an MMA gym here. Guess I know where Cody will be going when he's not doing TKD or BJJ. But still, when he has his first fight, you guys might have to come up and give me some moral support!
I'll be there for sure. I thought I heard that Urijah's mom doesn't go but I wasn't sure if it was still the case. I guess it would be.

We'll defin. be there for you!
oh god i made the mistake of letting my mom watch my jiu jitsu tournament. the kid i went against did an illegal move for the tournament (neck crank) and she FREAKED. "let me talk to the ref!"
i mean what kid wants there mom to yell at a ref at a jiu jitsu tournament!
she yells at the tv when i watched gsp vs serra fight haha.
she always has to put in her 2 cents (get off of him jerk!)

its funny though, i have to explain to her, ref will stop it if it gets bad, so chill, and i try to brainwash her. Gsp is the good guy! serra is the bad guy!

lol, tapout, lol
the best thing about this site is this exactly, being able to talk about mma with people that know the sport or at least watch it like addicts like myself haha.
at school i got 1 friend who watches it. sat and waited for like 2 hours for a table at buffalo wild wings only to watch cote get hurt bouncin around!
but its great, we are mma bros. and neighbors, so the second a fight starts one of us goes runnin to the others house and from then on its chaos.
Funny tapout! You're mom is too cute!!

Tap, I understand your mom completely! I did the same at one of my son's tournaments when they were discussing whether he made a mistake in his form. I was told specifically that his transition from one move to another was not wrong. When I heard them say "redo." I freaked. I got out of my chair and was ready to take on the judges. Thankfully, after they confered, they decided it was not mistake. But boy they would have heard from me if it were. So, give your mom a break, she loves you!
I know it's funny though how defensive she can get. And oh god I would never compete in forms I freak when I have to test. I'm not too good at memorizing

I freak out too. I don't like people watching me. You'd think after all these years I'd be ok with it but I'm not. I have to attend a national tournament next year. Trust me, I hyperventilate whenever I think about it. And yes, I have to compete in forms and sparring.
well best of luck to you then.
I'm cool with sparring , but point fighting just kind of bugs me. It doesn't seem as practical as it was intended to be and now is like a game of tag. Do you know how old you have to be to get a liscense to box?

Unfortunately at a tournament it is point sparring. But trust me when I say, we don't just use our feet. Nothing like Olympic style taekwondo. You will never see me spar with my hands down. My instructor fails people at testing for sparring with their hands down. At testing, it's more like controlled fighting. That's the best way I can describe it.
Oh, and I have no idea with the age requirement is for getting a boxing license. Have you tried googling it?
Just googled it for the state of Colorado -- 18
god everything is just 1 year away haha. more type to prepare though, im in no hurry
Ej- you'll be fine I'm sure, I would be nervous too, but I can just tell you know your stuff and you'll be great.
Now educate us on what you were talking about, point sparring? Sparring? Aparently what i thought it was it's not.

Thanks Lisa, but I have never competed at a national level before. I've gone to them when Cody has competed but haven't competed due to 2 knee surgeries. Point sparring is basically what it sounds like - getting points. First person to reach 5 wins. There are certain areas of the body you can hit (and certain ones you can't - those would be strikes). Body kicks/punches are 1 point, kicks to the head are 2, jump kicks to the body are 2, and jump kicks to the head are 3. All kicks have to be above the belt.
Other sparring we do is classroom/testing sparring. Not trying to achieve points. Basically, controlled fighting with a series of punches and kicks. Using everything we know in sparring match. Hopefully that explans it.
Oh so it is what I thought, for a minute I thought you all were talking about when people wear those masks and mave those long pointy poles to hit with, jousting maybe??

Jousting is on horses. I don't think I'm coordinated enough to joust.
not one of my brightest moments. Sorry folks!

We love you anyway! I'm sure I'll have a moment sooner or later. We all do! :)
The whole time i was right on sparring but then when I read y'alls stuff I was thinking it was maybe something else (fencing is what I was visualizing while reading your posts)

Ok, I can see getting confused with fencing, but I had no idea where you were going with the jousting. Although, I like to watch jousting at renaissance festivals. :)
