Well it is official - what everyone though is true - Mike Brown suffered torn cartilage between his ribs and therefore is out of competition indefinitely. He has to get medical clearance before fighting again. Recovery usually takes several months.
So what does it mean - looks like we are going to have to wait even longer for Urijah to get another shot. We already know the next card is in December so Brown won't fight on that card - and he probably will not be able to fight in the next card after that (probably sometime in March). So maybe, if we are lucky, Brown fights Garcia around June and then Urijah could get a fight with the winner maybe a year from right now if everything goes well. Sucks man, that is a long time to wait.
Urijah has been medically suspended for one month(mandatory after a TKO). That means no fight in December (the next WEC), which wasn't going to happen anyway

Thanks for the update. Sucks that he'll have to wait that long for a chance at reclaiming the belt. But I would rather have Brown healed and ready to fight than for anyone to say Urijah won because Brown was still hurt. Although, like you said, he has to get medically cleared before fighting. Injuries suck but I guess it comes with the job.
Well, just means I have more time to save my money so I can attend his next fight. :D

I wonder how Brown got hurt. Did he take a knee from Faber?

Personally (and I'm sure I speak for others here), I don't want to wait a year for another Urijah Faber fight...and I'm sure WEC doesn't either...and I'm sure Urijah doesn't either!!!!
All the more reason for Faber vs. Garcia

Yeah, supposedly it was the knee.

it will not be a year for Urijah to fight again - it is just a year before he could fight for the belt
Urijah will need at least 1 win between now and then to get another shot - i figure he will be on the card after the one in December

Boy that sure does suck to hear! But thanks for the update! Good things come to those who wait:cool:
There is also a unannounced fight on January 24th or around that time, most likely being Varner vs. Donald Cerrone.... and there was a planned fight for December 10th which was going to be Cantwell vs. Stann III which decided who goes to the UFC but Stann got hurt, so thats off, for now atleast... Lets hope to see Urijah back at it in January.

hmmm. Sad to hear that this is going to take longer than expected, but...BUT, more time to save money and set plans for all of us to meet at the next BIG FABER fight, right?

I am sure that Faber will take the mandatory rest time as use it to his advantage.

No doubt Lisa. I gotta get my piggy bank fat again. He's starving right now.
I think my pig died a while ago. I need to get a new one. :)

Monday Morning QB:
If our boy could have recovered from that strike, and pulled Brown into his guard (until he cleared his head), Brown would have been done based on the type of injury he sustained. I had something similar happen during a motorcycle accident and I had to go to Physical Therapy (Respiratory) to build my endurance back up for 6 weeks. I found it hard to take a deep breath for at least 9 months.
Costochondral Separation – the rib is torn loose from the costal cartilage and is detached from the sternum.
So unfortunately, it may be longer before Brown is able to return. Like you guys/girls, I’m hoping to see our boy in the cage with Brown ASAP.

From what I hear the Stann Cantwell fight card was actually supposed to be a UFC event - "Fight for the Troops" card - I know there is supposed to be the Jan 24th card but U have not heard about any cards after that one

I hope he comes back to Sacramento - that event was the best sporting event I've ever been too - better than world series, the UFC events, NFL, NBA - all of them!
I was able to pull 2nd row seats for that one - if only we could all just take over the first row for his next fight

Urijah posted that his next fight is in January in San Diego, but he doesn't know who his opponent is yet. I can handle San Diego in January. Beats Seattle in January that's for sure!
i'll be there!! I can't wait. I like the idea of taking over the front row. We'll need some sponsors or some shit to afford that though. :)

I'm just hoping that it's not January 11. That's my son's birthday. I can't miss that. Unless of course I have to sell my son on ebay to afford to go like Lisa suggested earlier. J/K!!!
