Just a few of my thoughts:
Post-Fight
Following that fight, I respect Urijah more than ever. Sure he lost, and that was hard to take, but he is truly an example of what this sport is all about. He represented himself, the gym and all of Sacramento with so much class – you can’t ask for any more. I can’t wait to see him back in the ring – representing the city.
Next Fight
Knowing Urijah, I expect to see him in the gym tomorrow – no way he is taking any time off. He is probably begging WEC to give him a fight on their next card even though he wasn’t originally scheduled to fight for several months. Whether the WEC will give him that opportunity, we can only wait and see. I know he wants to get right back in there, I just hope they don’t hold him back for financial reasons – because they want him to headline a card later in the year.
Title Shot
There is no way he gets another title shot right away – he probably needs at least 1 good win before he gets another chance. It looks like Leonard Garcia will get the next shot and that probably won’t happen for a while based on how Brown looked after the fight.

You really think that there won't be a title shot right away???
I could see it if Brown had kicked his ass...if it wasn't at all questionable...you know?
But Urijah just got caught...I think a rematch is totally in order...priority.
But when you are from the WEC and thinking financially...they are gonna have more publicity to do a comeback...have him fight Garcia first...ya...I see what your sayin.
Maybe disagree...I think a rematch should be first order of business.

Zuffa seems to wait before rematches most of the time. First two that come to mind are GSP vs Serra and GSP vs Hughes 1. Also, Liddell's fight with Rampage ended quickly and there was no rematch, although I suppose that one could be excused because that was the second fight.

Even though it was just a fluke shot - it was still a first round knockout - when that happens, people just don't get immediate rematches. While I wish he would, I just don't see it happening. If the fight was more like the one with Pulver - going 5 rounds - then I could see it.
I actually think Garcia will destroy Brown - and then it will be Garcia v. Urijah if everything goes well.
That fight actually worries me, Garcia has VERY quick hands, tons of power, a good chin, and he trains at one of the best gyms in the world (Greg Jackson's).
If it is Garcia - Urijah is going to have to take him down - not just stand with him and try to coverup like he did with Jens. Garcia's strikes are more technical that Jens - he wil lfind holes in the defense.
If it is Brown - Brown was pshing him all over the ring - so Urijah would have to play the hit and move game - not get pushed into the cage.

I have been crazy busy and therefore DVRed the fight with Brown ... just watched it now.
I have followed Urijah closely because he is my height. The idea of a professional fighter with a more compact frame ... that appeals to me and inspires me. Not only does his fitness level insprire me to spend that extra time on the rowing machine and do that extra set of skull crushers. But he impresses me as the kind of guy that, if at the age of 42, which is where I am, and wanted to take up MMA, I would want to train with Urijah. He seems like a real class guy.
Heck -- if I had an unlimited amount of cash and just wanted to get into really excellent shape, I would want to train with him. Guys like Urijah and Matt Serra seem like those really solid guys that are excellent coaches. they are role models ... guy syou just wnat to follow and be around.
The fight in the ring is just secondary. Urijah appears to me as the kind of guy who realizes that the real fight is within. Epicetus had a lot to say about this ... and the Enchiridion (http://classics.mit.edu/Epictetus/epicench.html)is an excellent and very quick read for any fighter. Winning, losing, these are not under our control. But our actions, our attitude -- these we can control.
There is a Chinese saying that kind of touches on this ... we do not control our destinies, but we must behave as if we do ...

Love that quote.
My son said something to me that really made sense. Sometimes you have to lose in order to be successful. I mean, if you are constantly winning how do you know what you need to improve on? I'm not saying I'm happy Urijah lost, not by any means. But the reality is he did, and knowing him, he's going to come back even better than he was.
