You are such a doll. I just think it is funny when you talk like a tough guy! You pretty butt-kicker you!
He went for a surprise elbow but ran into a strike. He looked tense, lost his balance several times. I'm upset but you can't win them all. Good fight though.
yeah no doubt Vega. He is still the cahmp in my eyes and I loved how he was straight up at the end. Rock on Faber.
bako, yeah I am a ppotty mouth big time!! A few beers doesn't help the situation! man.....................

Urijah's elbow could have just as easily taken Brown out. It just didn't land and Brown's shot did. That was an amazing fight and Urijah will have the belt back soon. He's still the Champ to me!
bakogymrat
11-05-2008, 07:15 PM
Vega,
I wonder with all the speed the Urijah has if some balance is sacrificed? (Does that make sense?)
makes sense to me. I bet so bako. Like someone said before, if Brown's shot wouldn't have landed, lights out for him. Urijah is still the man.
I think that makes sense. But unlike him to lose so much balance in such a short amount of time. What I take from it was that he was trying to avoid a heavy strike from Brown at any cost almost.

I do have a new respect for Mike Brown, but I still think he got lucky. And that Urijah would have been able to finish him if not for that one shot. I mean, Brown could hardly walk afterwards. Wouldn't surprise me if he didn't have some broke ribs from that knee. Way to let him know you've been there Urijah!
I don't care... Urijah is great fighting or not! Brown's hurt, so at least he knows the champ was there! Urijah is still the champ no doubt!! He'll be back better than ever to get HIS belt back. I'm still pissed that Brown got lucky.. and yes that's all it was.. luck.

11-05-2008, 07:27 PM
I don't know. I think Brown proved he was tough. I have a new respect for him. He is BIG for 145! Should be interesting to see what happens next.
ama6730
11-05-2008, 07:28 PM
It will be a long time before he's able to defend that belt. Thanks to Urijah, he will only be able to sit and look at it for a while. Hope he enjoys it while he's got it.:D
The rib injury was most likely a pulled rib muscle caused by rotating the rib cage too quickly. If so that's the least serious of rib injury barring bruised ribs.
As for luck, and I don't mean to shoot anyone down... I don't think luck had much to do with it. You put two fighters in a cage only one will walk out.
Urijah will have his shot to work back up to the belt which I'm certain he will retake.

I think Faber held a lot of Respect for Browns striking powers, that resulted in the quick exits or balance issues, get in and tag. The elbow was awesome but risky against the experience of Brown. Faber is still the man but Give Brown props.
ama6730
11-05-2008, 07:35 PM
No doubt Brown is tough. It takes a tough mofo to even step in the cage with Urijah, much less get a win. But he looked just as surprised as Urijah when he landed that punch. I'm ready for a re-match!
bakogymrat
11-05-2008, 07:35 PM
I agree with Vega. I mocked Brown the most prior to the fight, but I give him props. He is a STRONG dude.

AHHHH!!! lol jeeze, that was truly devastating to watch! My heart dropped in my chest, and I had to hold back every intention of throwing my remote through the wall! But hey... it's true, only one can walk out with a victory. Urijah truly had a streak as champ that we all know will not be matched, especially by Mike Brown... It's true he landed that hook, at the same time Urijah walked into it tryin to land an elbow... I saw it as he was tryin to scoot out from the wall being that he was clearly faster and more efficient at landing hits in the ring... Being up against the wall would slow him down, and play to Brown's advantage.... sucky, truly sucky he got caught moving out. Which sucks more is that most likely Urijah won't get the immediate title shot, there will prob be one fight before he gets a shot at the belt again, and what sucks even more is that Brown may be hurt. Which will just prolong it all. But hey! Us Urijah Faber fans arn't going anywhere! We are all going to be here, and ready to support Urijah on his war march back up to the top where we all KNOW he belongs!!!! GO FABER!!!!
Great posts!!! So much to comment on. But Brown DID GET LUCKY!!!! Faber just got caught. If Faber were to step in the ring with Brown right now, Brown would get his ass wooped.
Versus is rerunning it at the moment. Let's watch again. ;p

Urijah is definately the most talented 145er in the world, he just happened to get caught while attempting a crazy elbow. The true sign of a champion though is how he rebounds from losses and there's no doubt in my mind this will only make him stronger.
so so true dod! His attitude at the end was great!

I hadn't found the site until just before the fight tonight but I know I will be on here often! I am a totally huge fan and like so many other women out there completely in love with Urijah! He is so amazing and by what I've seen in interviews and watching him fight he is really down to earth and grounded so that will help him more than anything. So many out there get the big head when they gain the kind of recognition and fame that Urijah has and it's nice to see someone stay so grounded. I just wish he would come to Louisville to fight because that's the only way I'll ever get to see him in person or get the slim possibility of meeting him. :(
Great to have another chick on here!!! Hope you check in often. Most of us are on here daily.

I am sad...but confident. Urijah is the man, he is the true champ...he will reign again. ...soon...!! That fight wouldn't have lasted very much longer if Brown hadn't of landed that lucky blow; he was so messed up when he left the ring...Urijah was recovering from the previous hit and trying to get off the cage and smash him with an elbow in the process...spun right into Browns fist.. ...everyone gets caught ...the true champ will come back in the rematch!!
No worries guys!! The champ will be back!!!
I just hope it's not too bad of an injury.... eek, I predict a rematch in February. Man he took some hard hits down on the ground before the stoppage...what a warrior...sometimes I think the refs end it too soon, but typical Urijah flips out of those positions...it looked like his nose got pretty smashed up too...I think he will come back with avengeance! Can't wait for that!!
Go Urijah...we luv ya!! ;)

I won't consider Brown the Champ until he can hold onto it. If he can't defend it, then he has proved nothing. Urijah showed his class in the pre fight interview, when he set the tone for some polite talk comparred to the other pre fights. Urijah showed some even deeper running kind of class, when he was immediately ready to come out for the decision and then made some extremely polite comments post fight, totally recovered. Urijah is still the Champ to me and when Brown heals up enough for the fight, there will be a rematch.

Ok, late on the commenting (still no computer at home). Last night sucked big time. And, Lisa, FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!! Is very appropriate. Yes, it was a lucky shot, but Urijah coming around with a spin elbow like that left him open for that hit. It's a blind move. But like everyone has said, he's the champ and he will be back. I can't wait to see him back in the cage!

Hey Rutgers, welcome to the board. Always glad to see Urijah fans on here.
I think that makes sense. But unlike him to lose so much balance in such a short amount of time. What I take from it was that he was trying to avoid a heavy strike from Brown at any cost almost.
sounds reasonable, but he has fought heavy hitters before (pulver) but pulver didnt really show up last night, but I dont know, it could have been just nerves, im sure every fighter gets a bit nervous, but watching fabers fights, the only time ive seen him get off balance is when he goes for head kicks or anything chest or higher

ok ok i'll break it down simply.
i'm not sayin brown was in the gym going "ok guys...i want you to be throwing spinning elbows at me because i'm goin to finish him when he throws that"
but...what brown landed was basically a slip/right hook combo...hardly rocket science and something that can be worked on over and over again in the gym.
brown came in prepared and in shape and to suggest that all he did was land a lucky punch is disrespectable to him.
if anything i suppose he was lucky in the sense that his rib is busted up and he prob would have struggled once urijah put him under a bit more pressure
smirnhoff

I agree that he is well trained. I think the luck part was that he landed it at the time he did.
ama6730
11-07-2008, 03:43 AM
Mike Brown was in great shape. No doubt he trained hard. But well-trained fighters can still land lucky shots. I give him much due respect as a fighter, but to knock down Urijah with one shot like that was lucky.
Luck is part of every fighter's arsenal. When you agree to enter the cage with someone you accept anything can happen. I think he was lucky Urijah made a risky maneuver and he took full advantage of it. No doubt Urijah is my favorite fighter but I WILL NOT blindly say his loss was due to luck.
Kimberly
11-07-2008, 07:17 AM
Mike Brown would not have had a title shot if he wasn't a talented fighter. But, if Urijah would not have been coming around with that elbow, Mike would not have had that hit. It's all about timing. Fighting isn't choreographed, so anything can happen. I also think that the force and speed of Urijah coming around with that elbow made Mike's hit look even harder than it was. Not saying it wasn't a hard hit, but I think Urijah helped him out.

11-08-2008, 09:04 PM
Urijah is def still the champ deserves a rematch soon. I thought that he was kicking Brown's ass untill he lost his balance. I used to be a wrestler, I know that if you lose your balance and your opponent capitalizes on it it's hard to come back. But he is still the better fighter bar none. Simply the Best.
The only reason I say it was luck is because if he wouldn't have landed that punch, Brown would have got his ass whooped! That's all. Like Ej said, if he wasn't talented he wouldn't of had a chance to fight Urijah. I'm not saying he's not talented, he's just not better than Faber.
ya, if they were able to redo that fight, even from the point where the ref pulled em off, it would have gone to faber, he has great ground game and eventually ref would have stood em up, and then... would have just been a game changer if he coulda put brown in gaurd

Watched the fight again, with my honey last night (he was at school the night of the fight-we tivo’ed it). It is tough to watch that! I still think Brown deserves props, but my honey and I both agreed that the momentum from Urijah probably made the punch that much worse. He had all of his strength and speed propelling him into Brown’s fist. I don’t want to refer to it as LUCK on Brown’s part because that somehow seems like I would be cheating Urijah out of a fight. I am going to chalk it up to timing. Urijah’s timing to thrust forward work against him, and Brown’s timing with his fist worked for him.
I still don’t think they will re-match soon. I think the WEC is going to let someone else fight Brown for the belt…I mean URIJAH’s belt (right, Seth). The other fighter will “hold” the belt for Urijah for a while, and then it will come back home, where it belongs.
yeah Bako, I doubt a rematch will be the first fight we'll see next. But it's all good, Urijah will get it back the first chance he has, I know that!

Lisa, I yelled it the same way... at the top of my lungs...
He was obviously dazed and I kept waiting for him to come back out of it, but it just didn't happen fast enough. I think the ref made a decent call, but I was gutted to say the least. :(
Would he have recovered in another couple seconds? We'll never know. I'd much rather watch his comeback than to see him get seriously hurt.
It's obvious he, as he says, is "the man". Nobody doubts that. He is on a level above everyone else and it's obvious when you watch him fight. He will be back fiercer than ever I'm sure. I feel sorry for the next opponent he faces.
Not taking anything from Brown, he's a great fighter that was in the right place at the right time, trained hard and was prepared. Anyone not prepared will not last a second with Urijah. Hats off to him for even stepping into the ring with Urijah. Any confirmation of his injuries?
