Does the UFC test for steroids?
Basic or HGH, as well?
Did you all see Rousimar Palhares last night? Did you see him on the top of the cage after he won?
I honestly don't care who does what...but in a one on one situation where someone's arm or leg can get ripped apart....lay off the juice box.

yeah they test heavily for steroids and HGH
I found this on HGH testing.
Human growth hormone (HGH) has found use as a performance-enhancing drug for athletes, often used in tandem with anabolic steroids. As a result, a need has arisen for a test to detect HGH use.
Background
1. Human growth hormone causes the liver to produce insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1), which promotes growth of the bones, organs and muscles.
Blood Test
2. In 2004, one of the first major HGH tests debuted at the Athens, Greece Summer Olympic Games in the form of a blood test.
Effectiveness of Blood Test
3. Positive tests have not surfaced because athletes often take the drug during the off-season and the blood test can only detect HGH between 24 and 48 hours after use. Furthermore, many organizations, like Major League Baseball, do not allow blood testing for their players.
Urine Test
4. In 2008, USA Today reported that a collaboration between American and Italian scientists produced a test that detects HGH use via urine samples.
Effectiveness of Urine Test
5. According to USA Today, the urine test can detect HGH two weeks after use. This is because the test involves a particle that traps HGH molecules and amplifies their presence so the hormone can be identified.
obviously the blood test is worthless.
so you think they use the urine test?
I've been to plenty of gyms and seen plenty of crazy insane muscles. But I've never seen someone look like Rousimar Palhares unless they were on juice of some sort.
I know he was pumped up and full of adrenaline, but the man looked like he had monkey DNA.
I found lots of info on UFC testing. But it seems they only test certain fighters.
Like 6 out of the card.
Anyone have any more info?
Just curious.

I am pretty sure they test before each fight because Franca had a really hard time getting back after he was busted. Plus they have a zero tolerance roids policy

The UFC doesn't test, the athletic commissions that sanction the fights do.
Since most UFC events occur in Nevada, the Nevada State Athletic commission runs the tests (as far as ban substances) the same for California, the CSAC does it, etc.
Only when the event is held outside of the US does the UFC do it's own testing.
Now as far as for STDs, that is part of a prefight physical where you have to be medically cleared to fight.
Roids is interesting because the NSAC and CSAC in addition to testing before the fight (during pre fight physical), and immediately after the fight.(during post fight medical clearing). They also do random screenings. Meaning if you hold a license in either state (as nearly ALL UFC fighters are going to as those are the two main places where events occur) you are subject to random screening.
The NSAC, CSAC officials can and do show up a gym and screen fighters, or do send a notice in the mail where a fighter has to show up the next day for their screening.
While in smaller organizations and states being able to cycle just right can be done to avoid tests, in the bigger shows such as the UFC, you lose that ability because NSAC and CSAC can come and test you at any given moment.
As such licensed fighters in those two states have a more stringent steroid policy then any other sports organization period. Baseball, Basketball and football all have random testing. Fighters have random testing and testing before every scheduled fight. Imagine if a every football player got checked before every game. (Just the amount of player who would be suspended on drug tests would be astounding).
Some UFC fighters have been caught and subsequently dropped or suspended from fighting for a year for banned substances... in the past there have been guys stripped of the title because of it. Now a days most of the fighters don't even bother trying, too much to risk and too easy to get caught.

Does the UFC check for steroid use?
I mean everyone wants to talk about how UFC fighters are so much better than Pro Boxers but the majority of UFC guys seem to be roided up.
Yes.
At one point after his firs title defense Tim Sylvia had the belt taken from him after failing a pee test.
The same commission that governs pro boxing hands out licenses for the UFC bouts, so same particpation rules apply. That is why the UFC had to take up weight classes instead of the old ladder tournaments.

UFC steroid testing policy a joke?
Is it me or does it seem like that they run a don't ask don't tell steroid testing policy in the UFC? It seems like if there is a suspect fighter but that fighter is a big crowd draw or one of Dana's golden boys i.e. Lesnar they don't bother testing. It seems they only test fighters on their way down i.e. Bonnar or fighters that people are indifferent to i.e. Sherk.
Nope. The UFC doesn't actually do the testing; it's the various state athletic commissions. The UFC has no control over that. They test every main-event fighter, plus several others, each event. The UFC has conducted their own tests when there was no athletic commission, which is how Leben got caught.
After devoting a special to how great his conditioning was, Sherk getting caught really put some egg on their face. Especially since he was holding the LW title at the time. Having a stalwart like Leben caught was also embarassing.
As for Brock, he's been tested every time he's fought so far, plus he was tested back when he was in the NCAA, doing amateur wrestling. He's never popped for steroids. He's just a big dude; I don't understand why people just can't accept that.
I'M NOT ASKING OR TELLING I JUST PULLED THIS OFF THE NET FOR YOU TO LOOK AT-HOPE IT HELPS!!!-Hit&Run

I read Brock Lesnar is a "freak of
nature". I think Dana White said it.
Brock wears size 4X gloves...you can't
get hands like that from steriods. I
heard he walks around at about 285 lbs.
approx. and cuts weight to 265.
His body is definitely not perfect since
he ended up almost dying from his
resent bout with intestinal problems.
Thanks for all the great info Rick.
as for Lesnar, I'd be willing to bet a million dollars he did roids prior to his entrance into the UFC.
Of topic, I dated a guy with big hands and trust me, the rest of him looked nothing like Lesnar. LOL!
I thought his illness was connected to roids to be honest.
Just saying what I thought when it first went down.
I said before, I don't care who does what. But when it hurts someone else...in the cage or otherwise...it's wrong.
People on roids go tweeky-deaky pretty damn fast.
Unpredictable and dangerous.
I know that for a fact, unfortunately.

Brock was only eating meat and potatoes.
He decided to add fiber and completely changed
his diet. He did this when he found out he might
need surgury and would have to wear a colostomy
bag. With the all new diet he recuperated and didn't
need surgury. Thank God he did this change in time.
:( Sorry, for whatever happened that was bad.
thanks.
it was a friend of mine.
I did hear about that guy.
:(
very tragic.
