Good for MMA athletes YES!
Probly not so good for people not as active trying to lose weight...but a healthy option never-the-less. I prefer to lose the bread and just have bites of banana dipped in it...and even better than peanut butter.....dum da da dum........ALMOND butter!!!
I highly reccomend almond butter to everyone!
MaraNatha natural Almond butter is my favorite,(COSTCO) the only ingredient....almonds (california ones to boot!).
It has a flavour that I prefer to peanut butter and so creamy smooth!! mmm delicious! And if you like the crunch...then I would just chop (or smash!! heehe) a few whole almonds and mix it in!
I'm tellin ya...everyone's gotta try almond butter!
No preservatives, sodium or any of the usual crap involved! The only bad is probably not as high protein, but delicious!

My son loves PB&B sandwiches for the same reason and he can afford to eat them with all his training. I'm more in line with Jessica, bananas with PB forget the bread. :) Try celery and PB. That's an awesome combo also.
Jessica -- you are the second person I've heard mention almond butter. I'm going to have to check this out. I don't need any extra weight on my hips!
Alright alright alright enough with this....
Ha ha just kidding.. I'm allergic to peanut butter and have no idea what it tastes like, or a reeses/butterfinger/1000 grand/snickers/payday/PB&J/majority of asian food and many many more... I wish I could eat it though since it's in nearly everything and it's really good for athletes... So everyone eat it up for me

That really sucks Seth. I have a relative who is allergic to nuts. She just stopped eating out completely because of 2 trips to the hospital in less than a year. She thinks the places cooked with peanut oil or something and the wait staff just didn't know or take her serious when she asked them.
Be careful!
Yeah its no joke... Every restaurant I go to I have to make it clear that I will quit breathing if it does and that its that serious. Chilis actually has an entire different menu for people with peanut allergies... and it is not good.

I f you are looking in the grocery store then definately check out the organic, or health food aisle. It will be there for sure! Shoulda mentioned that before! J:o
Wow I wonder if I could eat this almond butter stuff... I'm not allergic to almonds so there should be no problems... Does it taste like peanut butter at all? I'm curious as to what peanut butter tastes like? What's the closest thing you can eat besides almond butter that tastes like a peanut or peanut butter?
awww Seth!!! That sucks!! Poor guy! I have no clue on the answer to that but go for the almond butter, that sounds like a good substitute.

Well, its not exactly like peanut butter,...but once you have it on toast a few times....mmmmmm....your hooked and never go back!! Well, me anyways...and I luved peanut butter!
For you Seth! If you can have almonds then you should be okay? It s a milder flavour than peanuts. Try it? :)

Peanut butter, skim milk, whey, and a banana in a blender is the BOMB! Give that one a whirl, no pun intended. MASSIVE protein in a cup. Try to stick to natural PB, as it is healthier than the other stuff.

Hope this isn't an ignorant question, but would you drink that as a meal replacement or pre or post workout meal. Hopefully I don't sound totally stupid.

I have always said there is no such thing as a stupid question. The Stupid question is the one that is never asked !!
I would say meal replacement.
I like to use a supplement that contains Propylene glycol which helps keeps the body hydrated if more then 1000cc are ingested for a 2 hour cardio session.
I like a high protein shake post workout. If I take on a big stomach full before a work out, I am no more good. Especially if I am doing cardio, look out trash can here I come !! That is just me though, I am sure there arealot more knowledgable peeps on the subject.

My problem is not eating the right thing before a work out. I have such a busy schedule that by the time class starts I'm starving. Most days I eat lunch around 11:30/12:00 and don't eat anything until after class (8:00/9:00). Obviously, during class I have no energy. What would anyone recommend as a good pre-workout snack.
It's just that I work two jobs and just don't have time to eat dinner before working out.

You need Elev8me bars!!!
Highly recommend, especially for on the go.....tell me about it!
They are by far the best "bar" I have come across, completely natural ingredients, none of the added garbage that you get in 99% of bars. AND.......dum da da dum....they contain 18g of protein. SO ...having all of the natural fruit and nuts they are an energy bar, but with the added whey protein, they also provide a kick ass amount of protein. So It can be a pre post OR replacement meal. I always have 2 in my truck, at work, in my gymbag...for that emergency meal. (BUt they are made fresh with no preservatives so they do go stale...although mine never last that long. They are a family based company (mom and kids team) that is in Vancouver BC, but they ship anywhere. Check it out. Health food stores should have them as well. And yummy flavours!
Another amazing option is Quinoa. It is an ancient grain, that you cook just like rice. It is a completely balanced meal for an athlete or active person. By that I mean the perfect ratio of Protein/Carbs/Fat. It is a complete meal in that sense. So I always cook it in larger batches and have my little containers ready. Very delicious and good for you, read up on it. I will look for a quick link to post on that as well.
For me, a shake like that would deffinately be post workout, loaded with protein but it would depend how late I trained. Evening, wouldn't be so good, it could also be a meal replacement, in that case I would add ground flax, and maybe some other kind of fiber to it, oats maybe to make it last longer and then maybe some greens..that is a powder...I never eat enough veggies!
But always keep in mind that A shake is processed (even the bars are processed) so they absorb quicker into the body which is good, but they digest fast so you will be hungry sooner. Unprocessed is best.

Thanks Jessica. That is just the information I needed. There is a health food store right down the street from the taekwondo studio. I will check them out today. I'm gearing up for testing in three weeks and I need to step up my training, especially sparring which takes alot of my energy (I'm not as young as the people I'll be sparring -- sometimes it sucks being 38). So this will definitely help.
There you have it folks!!!! 38 but hot as hell looking about 25! You look great Kim. Keep up the great work.
here's my edit: Jessica you are so smart and full of knowledge (hot too btw), thanks for sharing with us. Great info!!!!

y aher pics are pretty hot! :)
when you exercise, you mainly work off of what you had for breakfast, (but eat every meal!) i have that problem, i used to skip breakfast just because.. didnt think it mattered for late workouts and i normally dont have the time. But my wrestling coach said its crucial to eat breakfast, cut out sugars like pop from your regular diet. I started eating breakfast every day for like a week so far, and feel a ton better during practice
