PHOENIX -- Boxer Mike Tyson's 4-year-old daughter has died.

Phoenix Police Sgt. Andy Hill said that Exodus Tyson died Tuesday at 11:45 a.m. after accidentally hanging herself on a cord dangling from a treadmill in her central Phoenix home.

Officials from the Phoenix Fire Department said the girl's mother called 9-1-1 call just after 10:30 a.m. Monday to report an electrocution and hanging at the house near Bethany Home Road and 10th Avenue.

When Phoenix Fire Department officials arrived at the scene, they found the mother performing CPR on the 4-year-old girl.

Fire officials said they took over the CPR, then transported Exodus to St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center.

Phoenix Police Sgt. Andy Hill said it looked like a cord had been wrapped around the child's neck.

"Somehow she was playing on this treadmill, and there's a cord that hangs under the console -- it's kind of a loop," Hill said. "Either she slipped or put her head in the loop, but it acted like a noose, and she was obviously unable to get herself off of it."

After interviews with police, the girl's brother, who was also in the house, said he had found Exodus hanging from the cord on the treadmill.

The girl's mother then ran into the room to cut her down before starting CPR, according to police.

Homicide investigators blocked off 10th Avenue outside the house for most of the day, until investigators determined the accident was not suspicious.

"It's a possible death unknown type situation, so the investigators, because of the severity and the condition of the child, they're going to go ahead and process everything they can at the scene, to try to determine as best they can what happened," said Hill.

He said former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson had been in Las Vegas but flew to Phoenix after learning of the accident.

“We are grateful for the tremendous outpouring of love and prayers from all over the world. There are no words to describe the tragic loss of our beloved Exodus. We ask you now to please respect our need at this very difficult time for privacy to grieve and try to help each other heal,” the boxer said in a statement.

"It's terrible," said Abby St. Jermain, who grew up in the neighborhood and is house-sitting for her parents down the street. "The kids are so sweet. We always see them riding their bikes, playing. They've just been wonderful people."

Dinka Radic, who lives across the street, described Exodus as smart and sweet.

"The little girl, she says 'You got chocolate in your house?"' Radic said. "I say 'Yes,' and she says, 'OK, give me some."'

When she gives the girl the chocolate, Radic said "she just kisses me on my knees. Kiss, kiss, kiss. Very nice."

"She was a lively girl," said Ben Brodhurst, who also lives nearby. "She was always making noise. You see her riding a bicycle from house to house, and she was a really eccentric little girl."
