View Full Version : Shed some light for me.
I was reading an article about Ultimate Fitness on mmajunkie when I saw a guy knocking the gym so I asked him to elaborate. Below is what was stated. I'm not trying to cause trouble, I was just wondering if there was any truth to it.

Yes Ultimate Fitness, he has two locations in the Sacramento area. The main one is in Downtown Sac. The head boxing instructor is amazing, but the rest of the guys are just meat heads who hustle people for their money, i was only there a few months before I moved on to another gym

You have to sign a contract to take the classes, and then after you do that for a while they "might" invite to to the pro practice. Emphasis on might, During the classes the "instructors" just walk up and down the line of people and say things like this "looks good" you need to pick your arm up" your jab needs to externd more" They dont's spend anytime getting to know anyone unless they have some god given skill, and they really dont put in any one on one time. They have a really high rollover rate of students because people don't get the time they need to improve their skills. The former head BJJ instructor left and started his own gym because managenment at UF felt that "doesnt benefit fighters in the cage/ring" Thats why the gym makes so money, the high turn over rate, and the fact that it is owned by Uriah. If anybody else owned that gym it would have folded. They promise you all this one on one time and that they'll shape you and mold you to be the best you can. And once yuo're there they tell you that you have to pay for one-on-one sessions and pay to speak to the nutritional expert. It's all about money, not the art of teaching and training
And I say again: I'm not trying to start anything. I am a big fan of Urijah and his crew.

Surely Urijah can give some insight into this issue.

First of all, if you're going to trash talk someone, please have the courtesy to spell their name correctly. It's Urijah with a "j." Secondly, why would they invite someone to practice on a pro level if they do not have the talent, work ethic, or just plain ability to train at that level? People may have the want to do something, but not always the skill to follow through. There's nothing wrong with that, but be realistic. I'm a martial artist and I love it. But let's face it, I'm not going to win gold at the next Olympics. That's just my reality. And as far as private lessons go, almost every place I've been gives those -- for a price. Even at my studio private lessons are extra, and yes, you have to be on a membership to train there. I haven't heard of a place yet that won't let you train without being a membership. I'm sure if I called several gyms down in the Sacramento area I won't find many places that will do that or give private lessons for free. Hell, you can't even go to a regular gym and get training for free. And trust me, the nutritionist I just saw --yeah, that cost me money too. That's life and that's business. And Urijah is a business man. He has bills to pay like everyone else.
Basically, this guy sounds like a whiner and is probably upset because he wasn't any good. Deal with it and move on. What does he want? His hand held every step of the way? If that's the case, it will suck to be him in the cage/ring. He won't be tough enough to handle the beating he'll receive. With his pansy ass attitude he'd probably curl up in a ball and tap the first time he gets hit.
Oh, and the instructor complaint. Honestly, if you don't understand what "your jab needs to extend more" means, then really you shouldn't be training. Get out now before you really do waste all your money.

I totally agree with Kim and Mandy, this kid is whining because he wasn't "selected." Get over it. I am sure that the gym is crowded and to expect to be the only one getting attention is absolutely absurd. He's prolly mad because he worked out there for a while and realized that as everyone else was moving forward he was simply falling behind. Whiney post. Oh please. It's just like any other situation, you make the best of it. This kid sounds like a quitter.

He probably just couldn't cut it at the gym, didn't dedicate himself to it and was let down. I'm sure he was a fan of Urijah, joined UF with the mentality of being the next Urijah and expected to be babied and nurtured every minute in the gym becuase Ultimate Fitness breeds champs and houses many people with championship abilities.
Classes are classes, you can't expect one on one training in them. That's why they also offer one on one!
what a whiney douche bag. He needs his tampon changed! Get over it it you fucking baby!!! Most of TAM teach the classes at UF so be glad you even get to train with people at that skill level. And yes, its for a price, its a business you moron!!!!! But glad you found another gym to go to where you are happy and have less of a chance of getting your fairy ass handed to you. I think he was hoping for BJ sessions with Faber??? You whiney homo! :)
Haha, thanks guys, I thought I would get a good response from you. I posted it because it pissed me off as well, just wanted your thoughts.
Oh and that wasn't me. I just posted what the guy stated as I said above. I don't think there's a point in addressing him directly, he will probably never read this.

I am sure the trainer left for other reasons. As with any job there is always someone that can not get along with others, well as you can see someone has to eat shit. I can understand not letting "Joe the plumber" just jump right in and start training with the best. It would be the same as with any celeb. Could you honestly see the church choir jumping in and singing with Brittany?, nope not going to happen. I think the asshole who left, left for more obvious reasons then he has admitted to, and you are now the poor soul who has to eat shit. Urijah is a business man, along with being a professional, I can pretty well bet that this sort of thing does not take place in anything that carries his label.

The head bjj was a Brasilian guy named Andre Glodzinski. There were some other issues to why Andre left that do not need to be discussed on the forum. I'm cool with Faber and Andre and will not get into the he say - she say bullshit. He opened a gym not to far from UF. Andre and I are on very good terms and I've been invited to train there more than a few times. If he was not happy with the training he received, it's not biggie to cancel your contract and move on.

Go early, stay late and do the best that you can on every repetition of any move. The instructors start using you to help the class by being the guy who gets clobbered when he can and will naturally give you that one on one attention. Even if they do it during the class and not when you are alone, it's the same fricken thing and maybe better.:D
Oh yeah, have some personality and quit being a homo!:p
I have to credit the homo part of my post to Lisa. Thank you Lisa!:)
I also thank Tobias for his first hand experience:)
