The splendid-sounding state-of-the-art headphones (and earphones) I've been testing can help you escape the weight of the Heartbeats headphones (http://www.goodej2010.com)world, at least temporarily.Three of them — Bose's QuietComfort 3 Acoustic Noise Cancelling headphones, Sennheiser's PXC 250 NoiseGard and Voyetra Turtle Beach's ANR-20 — are noise-cancellation headphones, designed to block background and ambient sounds so that you can immerse yourself in music.Shure's E500PTH Sound Isolating Earphones use different technology to achieve the same results.Alas, two of the four, Shure and Bose,Bose earphones headphones (http://www.goodej2010.com) cost as much as or more than the iPod I tested them with. But the others deliver fine results without breaking the bank. As much as I admired the Shure earphones, the E500 costs $499. They almost make the $349 Bose look cheap. (But not quite.) At $100 the Turtle Beach is a better bargain than the $170 Sennheiser, though the Sennheiser, which has been around the longest, is often heavily discounted.
