View Full Version : Hopefully this is the place to be asking this...
I just wanted to see how fighters prepare for their fight. I know training and all of that but what things do they do or not do leading up to their fight? What do they stay away from? (beer, sex???) and the only reason I threw that last one in there was because on Tapout one time some dude has his chick there with him before his fight and they kept telling him to stay away from her (if ya know what I mean). I'm sure each fighter has their own ritualistic stuff they do but are there some common rules that all fighters typically follow?
Let me know what you all know, I am clueless on this one. Thanks!!!

i can't speak for any fighters, but i do remember (i'm old enough to remember lol) Ali was the same way, NO women during his training what so ever.
So no women just cuz we're crazy or does it some how chemically changes a fighter before a fight? Like a man without anything physical before a fight is more likely to act like an animal going after his prey? What about drinking? There were comments on the newer videos of Urijah at The Park and they were saying he was not drinking because of his upcoming fight????? Just seeing what some of the common rules are, do they load up on carbs the night before like we used to do before a big soccer tournament? Just wondering about things like that. Thanks for the info Forrest :)

to be blunt.... sex physically drains most men, and not for a few hours, but for many, even for the very next day (for some time). they can tell they're not at their best form.
the best illustration i can give, would be like... ummmm have you ever had a full body massage? and when you're done, you are physically wiped out? you feel like doing nothing????? ... it would be comparable to that i guess. it's the best illustration i can come up with at the moment. lol
as far as alcohol goes, i don't drink, so i couldn't really speak on that subject.

Alcohol, to me at least, isn't really a good thing for any fighter at any time. Naturally I don't drink and I doubt I ever will. It's a harmful substance so I'm sure drinking close to a match definately doesn't do your body any favors.
And as far as having women around goes, women are distracting. And no offense or anything but they cause a lot of drama. Really it's better to keep your mind focused on the upcoming fight
if you are a professional, you should take training serious all the time. Its your job, that being said. i dont think any fighter should have alcohol period, or smoke.
wow. Thanks for the great responses. I never thought those issues in that way. Pretty interesting stuff. Thanks guys.

alcohol isnt neccasarily bad for you its just the quantity of which you consume, but the reason for staying away from alcohol before a fight i would think would be because it thins your blood and when cut you bleed a lot more, as far as the women or sex goes i was watching something on tv about that on tv the other day and studies show male athletes preform better when having sex the night before a game or match so idk....
wow i didnt know that. Alot of fighters are different that way though. Did you watch the Sergio Gomez fight on WEC where he opened up a huge gash on the back of his head. Was bleeding up a storm. Some people can fight that way, some people get worried, but its interesting to know that. I never thought that deeply about it.
