I'm not saying GSP didn't hand BJ his own ass, but this isn't normal.

Greg Jackson is providing some pretty interesting explanations for the whole thing, I'm curious to see what all this amounts to, if anything..

Jackson spoke to MMAWeekly.com on Sunday afternoon and said the misunderstanding arose after Phil Nurse, one of St. Pierre’s cornermen, executed a ritual taught by a member of St. Pierre’s team, a “witch doctor” named Steven Friend.

“So in between rounds, (Friend) had this little drill that you do – and Phil Nurse is the one who knows how to do it – he showed Phil, and this is what Georges wanted, so we did that,” Jackson said. “But this is why we were doing it. He rubbed your back and tapped your chest; I don’t know exactly how it works. But anyways, what that’s supposed to do is get your energy in line, or motivated or whatever. So in between rounds, we had Phil Nurse do that.”

At that point, somebody in the audience thought we were greasing George down, and ran over and told the commission that we were greasing his body down. The commission came in and said ‘you can’t grease him down,’ which didn’t work. They said ‘you’re putting Vaseline on his back,’ and Phil’s like, ‘oh, there might be a little on my fingers, but it wasn’t intentional at all, and of course they wiped it right off and it was gone, so it wasn’t a factor in the fight at all.”

Agreed, thats what it seems, but regadless GSP set the tone from the begining

plus its not like he put 4 lbs of vaseline on there, sweat plays a factor into the slipping too. They are both incredible fighters each trying to set the speed of the match higher than the next guy, so they both working hard out there.

regardless, it was wrong of GSP's corner man to be doing that, but whats done is done. I dont think GSP processed that until later into the fight that his bud had done that

Some update to this, with GSP's reaction:

I like that he's taking the high road, not only in reference to the vaseline accusations, but anything and everything that Penn has said or done. Like Ivan said (and others on this and other sites have alluded to): no one rubbed vaseline all over him. I watched all the videos, and at best (or worst), it looks like the corner man may have ran his hand or fingers down his back.

The bottom line is that it doesn't matter...he so thoroughly dominated Penn that I think Penn could have jumped in a giant tub of vaseline between rounds and it wouldn't have mattered!

Of course, everyone is coming out of the wood work say that GSP was slippery when they fought him.

GSP instantly accepted when the idea of a rematch was thrown at him...he said he'll even wear a rash guard!

Eh. GSP completely dominated Penn throughout that entire fight. Standing as well as on the ground. A little lube job had nothing in determining the outcome of the fight, GSP's fists and elbows on the other hand did. Jackson's gym is becoming world renowned, and one of the deepest in the country. The guys that train there always exhibit the utmost respect for fighting and all of the rules that it entails. None of the fighters here would ever do anything knowingly to jeopardize the integrity of the sport, especially GSP.

BJ is one of my favorite fighters but i dont think that played a big factor in his loss

Regardless of how greasing happens it would still be the same, but it didn't look like enough to call it greasing. I think Dana's video reveals how it sure isn't something he wants going on and he is soooo phricken nice to all of the fighters, especially the ones who lost, letting them know they are still valuable. Clap, clap, clap for Dana being as healing as he can to these wounded warriors.

I was talking about this topic this morning at the gym (along w/ WEC going PPV) and most people DO think GSP was greased but that Penn would have lost with or without the vaseline additive.
It would be interesting to see those 2 rematch.
