hey ej, i'm posting this in 'your' section cause i'm not sure where this discussion should exactly be, haha
anyway, earlier this morning you were asking about gloves for cody...and i signed off but last thing i remember was that you were gonna find out what kind of gloves he was looking for, was it boxing gloves, grappling/mma gloves?

It's grappling/mma gloves. Tobias had sent me a link to some Fairtex gloves but told me there are some others out there.
Here's the link:
Amazon.com: Fairtex Sparring Gloves - Double Wrist Wrap Closure - Medium: Sports & Outdoors
What do you think? Do you have any other suggestions? Again, thanks for the help. I got Cody the shorts he wanted but gloves just went over my head. There are so many different types. Ask me about sparring gear for TKD and I know the answer, but MMA, I'm lost.

he'll prolly need boxing gloves too, huh? unless the gym he's going to is different than others, for any padwork, bagwork, and sparring he needs boxing gloves

It's funny you should mention that Felix, while driving home from work I was thinking I should invest in both mma and boxing gloves.
Thanks for the info! :)

Cody is grateful too for the information. He's looking at the website also and checking out the gloves with me.

I'm sure he will be happy with whatever brand you pick up for him. They are do the same thing.

I just don't want to buy anything that's going to fall apart a month after using them. That's all. I know he'll be happy with whatever he gets.

I've only heard good things about the combats sports brand and I don't know the what is the difference between their black mma training gloves and their blue ones to warrant a $45 increase on the blues. Check that out. They are the same glove.

okay ill go thru some sites & give my opinion on the best gloves for what you want to spend...can you tell me what you'd be willing to spend on gloves? keep in mind that you only have 1 pair of hands & a cheap pair of gloves is almost as bad as wearing none at all :)
you'll also need at least 2 pair of gloves: bag gloves & training gloves...you wear the bag gloves for any bag & mitt work, and when he gets competent enough that he's allowed to spar he'll need a second pair for sparring. (never use your bag gloves for sparring)...i dont know how that mma gym is, but a boxing gym won't have him sparring right away. but when he does he'll need head gear, sparring gloves, and a groin/kidney protector...you can prolly get away with just bag gloves for now (until he's sparring)
for the under $50 category i'd get these:

Felix - I'm willing to spend about $50 bucks per set of gloves. If I can get good quality for a little cheaper then great, if not then I'll spend what I need to.
I don't know how the MMA gym is run here. I know the owners (my TKD instructor is one of them). Of course, that doesn't mean anything. I would love to come down to UF and check it out so I know what I need to look for in a gym. :D I'm sure MMA gyms are run a lot differently than TKD studios. After the holidays we are going to check it out. Again, appreciate all the info. Definitely going to get the boxing gloves you are recommending.

High unemployment in the U.S. stubbornly lingers -- bad news for the politicians running for reelection as midterm elections are fast approaching.
