What an amazing night for MMA. All of the fighters put on incredible performances, topping off the new year and setting way for some interesting match-ups in 2009. For time's sake and your sake for my terrible grammar, let's just re-cap on what I consider the win of the year...

Arguably one of the most inspiring fights of the night goes to Frank Mir's second round t.k.o. victory over Minotauro Noguiera. Mir came out with an impressive stand up game that Noguiera could not answer to. Punch after punch, Mir picked Noguiera apart. Many would agree that witnessing the well respected Brazilian being finished for the first time in his career was a very tragic sight but the victory was well deserved for the more determined and classy Frank Mir. What was even more incredible was Frank Mir's emotional post-fight interview where the teary-eyed interim heavy-weight champ said, "To come back and fight the best heavyweight to ever fight in the UFC and get a win over him after what I've gone through, it just shows … I'm proof you can do things. I didn't think I could beat Nogueira. If I was a betting man, I wasn't on Mir's side tonight. I came through this with the love of my family, my children, my wife, everybody.” What an inspiration to take on the new year, one punch at a time.

Mir's performance was stellar. Although I was not rooting for him, he did shock me. Big up to Frank for defeating one of the best heavies of all times Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.

considering the many times he looked like a dumb ass during the TUF season, i'll give it up to him for winning tonight.. i do have to say i was stunned to see nogueira sp? go down like that! but good for muir-it just goes to show that no matter how sure you think a fight is going to go sometimes you can always be caught with an upset.... especially during the silva fight!
