sorry if i'm stepping on anyone's toes, but last night i watched a fight where Krazy Horse Charles Bennett won his fight.. but i gotta say, this guy gives the sport a bad name (at least from watching this one fight) ... if his act for real? he appears to literally be crazy! he even looks like a nut job! lol
so after the fight, he looks into the camera and asks "hey! am i on tv?"... showing off his "grill" of course... (like a junior high school kid who just realized he had the evening news camera on him and wanted his 10 seconds of fame).
as Bugs Bunny used to say... "what a maroon" (that's right, he says maroon, not moron lolol)...
some of these guys are pushing the sport to a low that i'm concerned about.. i'd really hate to see it becoming like the WWF etc , who plays out with their over the top (rediculous) characters. ... i mean if you like that type of thing, then go for it, but NOT in the MMA!! PLEASE!!!!

I did not see that fight but I couldn't agree with you more. The sport doesn't need that kind of crap. I think the sport already gets a bad name just because it's fighting and people aren't too educated about what really goes on. But can you imagine if what you described was someones first time watching an MMA fight? I doubt they'd ever watch again after seeing some clown put on that type of show afterwards. What a "maroon" ha ha. Thanks Bennett for potentially ruining a great MMA experience for first time watchers, jackass!!!!
Bennett always does that... Its ridiculous... Funny thing about that is, in all reality- who is Charles Bennett? lol

There's always going to be a jackass or two in the crowd that gives the sport a bad name. Hopefully, people who are truly interested in the sport won't let guys like this ruin it for them.

The Big 3 (NFL, NBA, MLB) certainly have THEIR share of ego-tripping morons. Hopefully its only an indicator that our sport is having a growth-spurt. MMA leagues should deal with its own jerks acting out as do other pro sports.

forgot NHL. but those sports have a different mentallity. they are less disciplined. How many times have you seen unsportsman conduct. In the world of mixed martial arts we have learned to respect each other (even after a brutal beat down) we can shake hands and fight another day.
If expanding means turning into a jackass sport, I dont know if thats too good. Its alright to do a little trash talk before the fight, its only fun, gets the fans pumped, but there is a line

Totally agree Tap. Lets hope MMA leagues maintain strong standards and filters out the overblown hype. Our growing sport demands the highest quality in all areas. Peace.

I agree that it gets RIDICULOUS watching some of the guys that fight sometimes. They hype themselves up and brag on their skills, then they lose. Everyone loses eventually. I'd like to share something my dad told me before i started training.
I used to get into fights a lot at school. I admit I was one of those kids who talked big and eventually got into fights that neither of us could even finish. I started getting into MMA about a year ago and since then I've looked back at my freshman/sophomore years and I can't even recognize myself now. I told my dad after my first time watching MMA that I wanted to learn martial arts like him.
He basically told me the story about a man that took on an entire army alone. He walked up to the army and said, "I'm going to beat you all down..one by one. It'll be slow, and it'll be painful." He was so full of himself and his abilities that he took on an ARMY. He lost of course. It was a much more disgraceful defeat then if he would have remained silent.
These fighters hurt their careers MORE by trash talking as they build themselves up for failure. After bragging on themselves and then LOSING they make themselves look worse and make it harder to get better.
Urijah on the other hand does the sport great honor. He has that cocky attitude that every one loves, but doesn't let it get to the point where he disrespects people. If/When he loses another fight (probably not for a while lol) he'll still be able to show his face and will probably even learn from the experience.
Long post, but I've heard the speech numerous times haha
Great post. Thanks!! That is so true. Urijah has that attitide "put him in from of me and I will kick his ass" but rightfully so, and he doesn't act like a fool. He deserves to have that kind of attitude, and I think being such a well rounded fighter, he should. If he didn't I think I would start to look for a pulse to make sure he was still alive. ha ha. But really these dumbasses act the same way and they have not earned the right. You know what I mean??

I know exactly what you mean. Even Bruce Lee was cocky. It's natural when you're such a great fighter to show it. The difference is between whether you're rude about it or not. Like in Forrests post, there was no reason to get that crazy over winning a fight. I see kids on my team that don't even get that excited about winning their matches (and they're not even so called professionals).
It's understandable to have adrenaline pumping after winning a fight, but you just make yourself look like an ass, and what about the other guy? I'm sure it doesn't make him like you any more for disrespecting him like that. Even if its not intentional, that's how it comes across. I see kids doing it on Tapout all the time.
I just wish these kids' gyms would teach them a little more about respect. And if they are, they need to absorb it! Haha. Don't get me wrong, fans want trash talking. I even want a little, but I hate disrespect.

Haha, here is a good example of Bennett being a typical ass, and Urijah enjoying teaching him a lesson! haha....(well I am assuming Urijah is enjoying the G'n'Pound ...Urijah looked happy!!)

Are you kidding me? That guy's a joke. What was the purpose of him smelling Urijah's arm pits? Some pre-fight ritual?
Thanks for posting it.

No fighter can think that he is NOT THE MAN and walk into the cage. It just cant happen if you plan on adding to your W column !! There are always gonna be clowns, Phil Baroni is just as bad as Bennett.
yeah i watched that link that was posted, what a douche!! It really pissed me off that he laid down on the mat when Urijah was walking in, like he was at the park watching the birds!!! Urijah showed him what's up and made him look like a jack ass for acting that way.
